About us

Chicago Dance Supply (CDS) was established in 2003 on the Northside of Chicago by Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth and Lauren Miller, two friends who danced together at the Joel Hall Dance Center.  They opened CDS as a brick and mortar store in a business co-op as a local alternative to online shopping. Their goal was to provide superior customer service while offering quality dance supplies at reasonable prices.

Over time, Leni continued managing the shop with her husband, Mike, when Lauren left the business to return to school and family. Leni currently sits on the board of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and has co-sponsored exciting events with the chamber including Let's Dance! Year of Dance Chicago x Andersonville (photos: Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth).

The shop has been lucky to have the help of so many CDS Crew teammates through the years. The CDS Crew helped to make CDS what it is today: Chicago's welcoming destination for all kinds of dancers needing dance wear of all kinds.

CDS continues to be locally dancer owned and operated at the building known as The Landmark, 5301 N. Clark St. Floor 2 in Andersonville, a neighborhood recognized as the "Shop Local Capital of Chicago". Chicago Dance Supply currently holds the Best of Chicago Reader title for Best Dancewear Shop.
